Coffee, Tea, Marzipan and Candy Canes

Those four sweet treats together can only mean one thing. It’s NUTCRACKER SEASON!!! Fun fact: I was going to name this post Land of the Sweets but apparently that title has been co-opted by a burlesque themed Nutcracker in Seattle…

Land of the Sweets

Once Halloween is over, it’s as though a light switch has been flipped. Like it or not, many people, organizations, and in particular, retailers are announcing that Christmas is less than two months away with a vengeance. If you haven’t heard a Christmas song as yet, then you must be a bigger hermit than I am…

For many, the holidays and the Nutcracker are practically synonymous. Dancers obviously know it is Nutcracker season but did you know that Baileys Irish Cream did as well? Three days ago, Baileys unveiled a Nutcracker inspired holiday commercial that stars Steven McRae, Thiago Soares and Iana Salenko of the Royal Ballet and was choreographed by Benjamin Millepied, director of Black Swan and incoming director of the Paris Opera Ballet.

The commercial (two minutes in length) focuses on a very small scene from the Nutcracker. The stage is set at a bar aptly named Candyland and all of the characters are single and ready to mingle! The handsome Nutcracker makes eye contact with classically beautiful Clara and lurking in the balcony is devilishly handsome Mouse King, overseeing everything. While the pas between Clara and the Nutcracker was good, I personally enjoyed the battle scene between the Mouse King and the Nutcracker much more (for obvious reasons). Those tours, grand battements, and tattoos were just perfection. I also loved the creative take on Clara taking the Mouse King down a level…

For your viewing pleasure, Baileys also created a “behind the scenes” accompanying video if you want to see some of the production that went into creating the final product. Enjoy!

Thanks to Setting the Barre for posting these videos first!
